From April 1, the Bank of Russia will launch a pilot project on operations with the digital ruble with the participation of 13 banks. This was reported by the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank Olga Skorobogatova.

At the initial stage, the regulator will begin testing transactions between individuals and payments in trade and service companies.

The pilot will be based on real transactions and users, but limited to selected clients of 13 banks that have already technically confirmed their readiness.

The regulator will also allow the use of a digital token backed by gold in international settlements.

On January 16, the State Duma Council put on the agenda for consideration in the first reading a bill on the digital ruble.

The launch of the prototype of the Russian CBDC platform took place in January 2022 with the participation of five banks. Together with the regulator, they tested the issuance of an asset, the opening of digital wallets, as well as transfers between citizens.
